The National Purposes in the National Broadband Plan: One Year Later
Event Summary
In March 2011, it had been almost one year since the Obama Administration presented a strategy for expanding the availability and adoption of broadband Internet access nationwide. In calling on the Administration to create the national broadband plan, Congress insisted that the plan specifically address “national purposes”—job creation and economic growth, consumer welfare, civic participation, public safety and homeland security, health care, energy independence and efficiency, and other issues. ITIF reunites the team from the Federal Communications Commission who spearheaded the development of recommendations to integrate broadband into key components of society—and people’s daily lives. The team provides an update on achieving these national purposes during what has been an eventful year for Internet policy action and debate.
