Richard Mudge
Dr. Mudge is President and founder of Compass Transportation and Technology Inc. This firm specializes in the economics, finance, and policy of transportation, with a focus on connected and automated vehicles.
Dr. Mudge has held a series of management positions as a transportation consultant. These include co-founder, President, and Chairman of the Board for Apogee Research. He also directed the transportation policy group for the Congressional Budget Office and worked on applied research at the RAND Corporation.
As part of a long-range plan for Northern Virginia, Dr. Mudge prepared a memo on “What’s New in Transportation.” This covers autonomous vehicles, shared mobility, real-time traffic information, and changing public attitudes. Dr. Mudge is also part of a team hired by the US Treasury to identify 50 transportation and water projects that generate significant national and regional economic benefits. This work takes a bottom’s up approach and considers net economic benefits. The Top 50 includes toll roads, managed lanes and a few technology programs.
Dr. Mudge has a Ph.D.in Regional Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and an undergraduate degree from Columbia College.
