Steven Mason
Steven Mason is a member of the board of ITIF's Centre for Canadian Innovation and Competitiveness.
Mason is a senior partner at McCarthy Tétrault LLP in Toronto. He is also head of McCarthy Tétrault’s National Intellectual Property Litigation Group and leader of the firm’s Pharmaceuticals Sector. With over 30 years experience as a trial and appellate lawyer, he has appeared as counsel in some of the largest, most high profile cases in Canada. His practice focuses on patents, copyright, trade secrets and regulatory issues.
Mason was an adjunct professor at Osgoode Law School where he taught intellectual property law for over a decade. Previously, he practiced in California at a San Francisco-based law firm in the area of intellectual property law. He also co-authored Intellectual Property Law in Canada: Cases and Commentary (Carswell, 2nd ed. 2013) as well as Copyright: Cases and Commentary on the Canadian and International Law (Carswell, 2nd ed. 2013).
He is a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and a member of the Law Society of Ontario and the State Bar of California.
