Comments to the FCC on Verizon Wireless Proposed Acquisition of Spectrum Rights
ITIF filed comments with the FCC in favor of Verizon's proposed purchase of spectrum licenses from a group of cable companies. The transaction would enable Verizon to expand its 4G LTE service across a larger band of spectrum, enabling its customers to enjoy faster downloads and fewer restrictions on their mobile data services. The United States leads the world in the adoption of LTE, despite the lack of action on the part of Congress to allocate spectrum to these advanced networks. In the absence of re-allocation of government spectrum and meaningful re-packing of TV broadcast channels, transactions of this type are the only way to close the gap between spectrum supply and spectrum demand. We can't afford to let valuable spectrum lie fallow, and this transaction puts it to good use.
