France Should Not Force its Internet Policies on the World

French authorities recently threatened Google with financial penalties unless it applied Europe’s right to be forgotten data protection policies to all of its users worldwide. By taking this step, France is attempting to enforce its domestic policies on the international community. In a piece for Europolitics, Alan McQuinn insists that rather than trampling on the rights of other sovereign nations, France should try to find common ground with other countries and formalize consensus on universal rules that govern the Internet.
