Dear Congress: Save Open Data

Despite the widespread economic and societal benefits of government open data policies, there is no guarantee that these programs will continue under future presidential administrations because they only exist now under executive order, writes Joshua New of the Center for Data Innovation in Computerworld. Congress should codify providing open data to the public as an official responsibility of the federal government to secure and expand the benefits for the years to come.
